Just another reason that summer 2020 is a giant bummer. The Cedar Rapids Jaycees have announced that all of the Uptown Friday Nights scheduled for the McGrath Amphitheatre this year have been officially canceled.

The announcement came this afternoon (July 27th) on the Uptown Friday Nights Facebook page. It reads:

"It is with a heavy heart that the Cedar Rapids Jaycees have to announce that the remainder of the 2020 Uptown Friday Nights season has been CANCELLED, due to COVID-19. We look forward to bringing back the Uptown Friday Nights summer concert series in 2021 with a bigger and better experience for our fans."

The Jaycees initially cancelled the first five concerts in their 2020 series in late May, but they were holding off on making a decision on the remaining shows. They held a virtual Uptown Friday Night back in June with Slap'n'Tickle and SuperKnot, but it doesn't appear that they have plans to hold any similar events in the near future.

The Uptown Friday Nights directors are already working on plans for 2021. The update says that they are looking for bands, volunteers, and guest bartenders. If you are interested in more information on any of those topics, you can send an email to ufn@cr-jaycees.com.

Uptown Friday Nights are a staple of summer here in Cedar Rapids, so it's disappointing that the event was yet another victim of the current pandemic. COVID-19 seems to have stripped us all of most of our fun seasonal plans. We look forward to next year's Uptown Friday Nights and we thank the Cedar Rapids Jaycees for all of their hard work!
