It's been a really good year for Iowans on singing competition shows! We had Sharane Calister make it to the top 11 on 'The Voice' in early 2018, Clarksville-native Maddie Poppe ended up winning American Idol back in May, and Jaida Dreyer, who spent much of her childhood in north central Iowa, just won the new USA show 'Real Country.' Well, we have another young Iowan hoping to follow in all these footsteps, and her name is Abbie Callahan.

If the name sounds familiar, that may be because Abbie auditioned for NBC's 'The Voice' last year at the age of 16. Her audition was never aired, but she still got quite a bit of attention here in Iowa. That's when I started following her on Instagram and I found out she is crazy talented. Especially when you consider the fact that she's still in high school! I watch her weekly videos religiously and am continuously amazed. I honestly cannot believe 'The Voice' didn't keep her on. But, when one show says no, another one might say YES!

The now 17-year-old pulled a Maddie Poppe and took her talents over to another singing show this year: American Idol. She made the announcement on her Instagram this week with a photo from the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver, Colorado. The caption reads:

"Hey y’all! I auditioned for season 2 of American Idol! Tune in March 3rd to see if I receive a golden ticket #thenextidol #americanidol"

We wish Abbie the best of luck and we are keeping our fingers crossed for her! If you'd like to check out some of her singing videos, you can follow her Instagram at me_and_my_music.
