Following in the footsteps of Maddie Poppe, who won American Idol back in May, another Iowan has claimed a national singing competition! Jaida Dreyer was born in Canada but spent most of her childhood in the small town of Latimer, in north central Iowa.

Last night, Jaida brought home the win on the USA Network show "Real Country," which featured Jake Owen, Travis Tritt, and Shania Twain as mentors. The fans voted her the winner after her performance of "Jack It to Jesus, Spray it to Hell." You can watch her performance of the song below and just below that is the very interesting story behind the song itself.

Jaida is already an accomplished songwriter. She wrote Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild's #1 song, "Home Alone Tonight," penned at least nine songs for the hit TV show 'Nashville,' and has also had songs recorded by everyone from Tim McGraw to Eric Church.

The prize Jaida received for winning 'Real Country' last night was $100,000, a performance slot at the Grand Ole Opry, and she'll perform at new spring's Stagecoach Music Festival in California.
