An old marriage test from 1939 is starting to make its rounds on the internet, and it's supposed to tell you if you're a good husband or a good wife. It would seem that back then, men had it easier being husbands than women did being wives. I know, shocker.

How do you stack up?

Good Husbands:

  • Give wife allowance or turns paycheck over to her
  • Courteous to wife's friends
  • Frequently compliments wife on cooking, housekeeping, and looks
  • Remembers birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
  • Helps with dishes and taking care of children
  • Polite and mannerly, even when alone with wife
  • Consults wife on business and social occurrences
  • Has a date with wife at least once a week
  • Reads newspaper, books, or magazines aloud to wife
  • A good conversationalist
  • Steady worker and good provider
  • Leaves car for wife on days she may need it

Some things that make husband lose points:

  • Belches without apology or blows nose at table
  • Leaves dresser drawers open
  • Leaves shoes in living room
  • Snores
  • Fails to come to table promptly when dinner is ready
  • Compares his wife unfavorably to his mother or other women
  • Reads newspaper at table

Good Wives:

  • A good hostess, even to unexpected guests
  • Has meals on time
  • Can carry on an interesting conversation
  • Can play an instrument
  • Dresses for breakfast
  • Neat housekeeper
  • Personally puts children to bed
  • Never goes to bed angry, always makes up first
  • Asks husbands opinion regarding important decisions and big purchases
  • Good sense of humor
  • Religious; sends kids to church or Sunday school and attends herself
  • Lets husband sleep late on Sundays and holidays

Some things that make wives lose points:

  • Slow in coming to bed, delays until husband is nearly asleep
  • Doesn't like children
  • Fails to sew on buttons or fix socks regularly
  • Wears soiled or ragged dresses and aprons around the house
  • Wears red nail polish
  • Seams in pantyhose often crooked
  • Puts her cold feet on husband at night
  • Is suspicious or jealous
  • Is a backseat driver
