Ariana Grande Gets Manchester Bee Tattoo To Honor Bombing Victims
The innocent victims of the May 22 bombing at Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester, England will live on the singer's heart and mind and, now, on her skin, too.
Grande, who performed June 4 in support of the attack's victims and their families, immediately proceeded to get a tattoo of Manchester's famed bee backstage, according to The Sun. Yup, she and her team consulted artists from Manchester Ink to get the job done, and you can see the finished results on the site.
“That was the hardest thing ever. I just need to go home now," Grande said after the show, according The Sun. One Love Manchester also featured performances by Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and more of pop's biggest acts.
According to The Manchester Evening News, the bee is a symbol of the Manchester's working class, particularly in relation to its Industrial Revolution. It became popular in the city in 1842, an era during which textile mills were described as "hives of activity" that functioned thanks to the efforts of many eager bees.
The symbol is all over town, from the "clock face of the Palace Hotel, [to] the mosaic flooring at Manchester Town Hall and even above the arches of Links of London."
