Attention all Iowa shoppers, be aware of a major beef recall.

According to KCRG, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed over 40,000 pounds of ground beef is being recalled due to concerns of E. Coli.

KCRG reports that there are seven products that are in question from Lakeside Refrigerated Services out of New Jersey. These products were produced on June 1 and distributed nationwide. Also if you see the establishment number 46841, there's your red flag. The products to avoid are from Marketside, Thomas Farms, and Value Pack. Specifics are as follows:

  • MARKETSIDE BUTCHER ORGANIC GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF 1-lb. vacuum packages with a use or freeze by date of 07/01/20 and lot code P-53298-82.
  • MARKETSIDE BUTCHER ORGANIC GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES 1-lb. vacuum packages containing four ¼ lb. pieces with a use or freeze by date of June 27, 2020 and lot code P-53934-28.

  • THOMAS FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES 85% LEAN / 15% FAT” 1-lb. vacuum packages containing four ¼ lb. pieces with a use or freeze by date of 06/27/20 and lot code P53935-25.
  • VALUE PACK FRESH GROUND BEEF 76% LEAN / 24% FAT 1-lb. vacuum packages with a use or freeze by date of 07/01/20 and lot code P53930-18.

I had E. Coli once when I was in high school from peanut butter. I can tell you, it was THE WORST. I was basically glued to my couch for a week straight because every time I moved I'd get sick. So yeah, it's definitely not something you want to deal with.

The Marketside products are carried at Walmart stores, so if you do a lot of your grocery shopping there, pay close attention. Target carries Thomas Farms ground lamb, but nothing about ground beef on their site. If you just picked up groceries for the week or are planning to soon, be aware (and ready to throw out) these products.
