Weinstein Co.’s New Female Owner Is Giving the Disgraced Studio an Inclusive Makeover
Following the tidal wave of sexual assault and harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein, the company he co-founded with his brother Bob was hit with its own series of setbacks. Upcoming films were pulled from the release schedule, while The Weinstein Company itself was put up for sale. In a bit of poetic justice, the sole bidder — and new owner — of the company that was tarnished by decades of violent misogyny is a woman. And she’s giving TWC the inclusive, female-friendly makeover it so desperately needs.

‘Deadpool 2’ Will Now Duke It Out With ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Solo’ in May

‘Black Panther’ Had the Biggest One-Day Advanced Ticket Sales in MCU History
Black Panther doesn’t hit theaters until next month, but Marvel’s latest installment has already begun making history. In addition to being the studio’s first superhero film with a black lead and featuring a majority black cast and being the first Marvel movie to boast a soundtrack with multiple original songs (courtesy of Kendrick Lamar), the Ryan Coogler-directed film can add another milestone to its collection: Black Panther has sold more advance tickets in one day than any other movie in the MCU.
Stan Lee’s Attorney Denies Sexual Harassment and Groping Allegations
The tidal wave of sexual harassment and assault allegations that rocked Hollywood in recent months seemed to have taken a brief holiday vacation, but as evidenced by headlines (and the Golden Globes protest) over the past week, this long overdue reckoning will continue. Stan Lee, the former president of Marvel Comics and co-creator of many of the company’s iconic superheroes, is the latest name to become the subject of serious allegations, as employees of an unnamed nursing company have accused the 95-year-old legend of sexual harassment, groping and unwanted advances behind closed doors.
James Franco Accused of Sexual Misconduct Following Golden Globes Win
When James Franco picked up a Golden Globe award last night for his portrayal of Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist, his seeming refusal to let Wiseau himself speak wasn’t the only thing that drew criticism on social media. Franco, who wore a “Time’s Up” pin to support the protest against sexual harassment and assault, was swiftly called out for his hypocrisy on Twitter by multiple women — including actress Ally Sheedy, who previously starred opposite Franco in a 2014 off-Broadway production.
