Be Part of the Action at Kinnick as a Game Day Volunteer

Worker shortages aren't just affecting paying jobs. The Cedar Rapids Gazette says that with three home games left in the season, Kinnick Stadium officials are seeking volunteers to work on game day.

The kickoff against Purdue is at 2:36 p.m. Saturday and, if interested, you could work at stadium gates, in sections for disabled spectators, and in premium club areas beginning Saturday and for the remaining home games this season. You could also be part of the best tradition in college football, the "Iowa wave" to kids at the Stead Family Children's Hospital.

A contractor for these positions, Contemporary Services is facing that all-too-common staff shortage, trickling down to organizations it works with, like University of Iowa athletics. There may even be opportunities to volunteer during basketball season at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, but that'll be determined down the road.

Though these are normally paying jobs, they are looking for volunteers to "fill holes". You'll get to partake in the always-electric Kinnick game-day atmosphere and will be provided free parking, credential access to premium seating areas, and a free meal. But no cash.

Exactly how many positions they are looking to fill isn't known, but in a statement from UI athletic officials, they said

as you may be aware, many institutions across the country are facing staffing shortages on football game days,” according to the email. “We are no different at Iowa. In a typical year, we have over 1,000 staff positions that are filled on a football game day. Today, we are facing a significant deficit in those staffing numbers as we project out for the remainder of the season.

There is the game this weekend against Purdue and two more this season at Kinnick, November 13 against Minnesota and November 20 against Illinois where volunteer workers are being sought.
