Beer Sales Helping One Iowa Community Connect [VIDEO]
A bridge that once connected different sides of a central Iowa city has been closed for two years, but now a beer company is selling a special pale ale to help get it reopened.
The Jackson Street Bridge in Des Moines, originally built as a wagon bridge in 1898, was closed in 2013 due to corrosion and overall deterioration.
Everyone from biking enthusiasts to business owners have been raising funds for the bridge's repair and a Des Moines beer company even got involved. The Confluence Brewing Company bottled a special Bridge Builder Pale Ale with proceeds going toward repairs. The total fundraising goal of $2.3 million has been met, now the bridge repairs just have to be completed.
Kudos to Des Moines... a community coming together for its own benefit. That's something Cedar Rapids can definitely identify with over the years, especially since 2008's devastating flood.
