The report states that the crash happened just after 7:30 this morning "half a mile north of Highway 30 on 15th Avenue". According to officials, "the driver of a van dropped off the shoulder and overcorrected". The overcorrection caused the van to cross straight into the path of the school bus and strike it head-on. The driver of the van was killed, five juveniles suffered minor injuries, and the bus driver was not injured.

Vinton Newspapers posted a photo of the scene with emergency crews working via Facebook. Students were safely taken off of the scene at the time of the photo.
