Last week something popped up in my front yard that I hadn't seen there before. We've lived at our current house in Marion since 2001 and I've never had any large dirt mounds pop up before. But sure enough, right there in my front yard, a molehill. The battle has officially begun.

Moles are small creatures that burrow beneath the earth looking for things to eat. As far as pests go, they don't do damage to plants or flowers. What they feed on are earthworms and grubs. Their tunnel systems actually are worm traps. I've never really had a personal vendetta against moles. I remember seeing their handiwork when I lived on a farm growing up. But now that it's my yard, it's personal.

There are a variety of ways to get rid of moles ranging from live traps to, well, the way that I tried Monday night. I got what basically is a smoke-poison bomb and inserted it down one of their mole holes. I lit the fuze and I guess if I don't see any more mounds I know it worked.

Do you have any home remedies for getting rid of moles?
