Another Top NFL Honor For Former Cyclone Brock Purdy
Another accolade for former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy as the San Francisco 49ers QB is headed to the Pro Bowl!
Purdy was named the starting Pro Bowl quarterback for the NFC, while Tua Tagovailoa from the Miami Dolphins was selected as the starter for the AFC squad. KCCI reports that it is the first time that the starting quarterbacks from both conferences have been first-time starters since 1999. That year it was Peyton Manning against Iowa native Kurt Warner.
Purdy was one of nine 49ers players selected to the Pro Bowl. San Francisco is the #1 overall seed in the NFC Playoffs. Purdy was joined by former Iowa Hawkeye tight end George Kittle on offense. The 49ers had the most players selected this year with nine. The Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys each had seven players selected.
KCCI reports that the Pro Bowl will be returning to Orlando for the first time in three years. It will mark the second year for what the league calls the Pro Bowl Games. The AFC and NFC compete in skills competitions and also play a game of flag football. Peyton and Eli Manning will serve as coaches again this season.
Meanwhile, since the 49ers already have the top seed in the NFC, several top players will reportedly sit out the regular season finale against the Rams, KCCI reports that will include Purdy and running back Christian McCaffery. Other top players like WR Debo Samuel and tackle Trent Williams may also get the week off.
