It makes me sad when we lose a restaurant that I enjoyed going to. I visited BurgerFiend on Center Point Road in Cedar Rapids multiple times over the course of the past year. Their burgers are great! The choice of toppings was plentiful, and I enjoyed their fries and shakes too. I could even get a Coke in a glass bottle. But after expanding to a location on 16th Ave. SW, BurgerFiend has closed it's store on Center Point Road in Cedar Rapids.

The news comes as a bit of a shock to many, including myself. Earlier this year, BurgerFiend announced they were opening up the new location on 16th Ave. As the Gazette points out, they were actually re-opening that location. It was an operating store from 2014 to 2017. The owners then decided to shut it down and focus their efforts of the Center Point Road store. That BurgerFiend took the place of the old Spring House restaurant.

BurgerFiend stated that they wanted the Center Point Road location to be the model for all future restaurants. The re-opening of the 16th Ave location had been planned for some time, but like many other things, it was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Gazette reports that demand is what brought the SW side store back to life.

But was it the pandemic that cost us the Center Point Road location? It's hard to say. The good news is you can still order your favorite BurgerFiend burger at their 16th Ave location, or online at BurgerFiendOnline.com!
