Mother Nature gave campers a few extra warm days to extend the camping season for one more weekend, just ahead of the Linn County Conservation board announcing it will be closing several of its campgrounds this week,

In a media release, it was noted that Morgan Creek Park, Pinicon Ridge Park and Wanatee Park Campgrounds will all be closed as of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26. The last night to camp will be the previous evening, Tuesday, October 25. Other items of note with this announcement included:

  • Water has previously been shut off for the season
  • Buffalo Creek Park campground and Mt Hope campground within the Matsell Bridge Natural Area have closed for the season
  • Matsell Bridge Equestrian Campground will close on November 15.

It was also noted that several campgrounds remain open for use year-round.

Matsell Bridge Natural Area primitive campgrounds, Wakpicada Natural Area, and the Wickiup Hill Pack-in Campsite are available for camping throughout the year.  In addition, the Wickiup Hill Learning Center has a pack-in reservation-only campsite available year-round. No water or electricity is available in these areas which allows for year-round camping opportunities.

Trashmore Trails closing soon

Meanwhile, the popular Trashmore Trails and Overlook, located at 2250 A Street SW, Cedar Rapids, will be closed to bikers, hikers, walkers, sightseers, and other visitors for the season Sunday, October 30, 2022, according to Iowa's News Now.

More than 15,000 people from 50 states and four countries visited Iowa's most popular "landfill with a view" in 2022, and now as the site closes for the season, work will begin on trail repair and increased parking, starting on October 31, to make next year's visitor and user experience even better.
