Carson King Fallout Continues: Busch Light Out at Eastern Iowa Oktoberfest
If you're going to Waterloo's Iowa Oktoberfest this weekend, you'll find plenty of beer choices but the selection won't include Busch Light.
Chad Shipman, of Iowa Oktoberfest, told the Gazette,
We just felt it was best to support a local Iowan and his cause. We want to support Carson King's cause, and that's giving money back to the hospital. We will have fundraising activities at Oktoberfest for people to donate to Carson King's cause.
Earlier this week, Busch Light announced they would be cutting future ties with Carson King after racist tweets from when he was in high school surfaced. They will still honor their donation to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
Shipman also said those involved with Iowa Oktoberfest believe Anheuser-Busch's dealings with King are a double standard. King's tweets from eight years ago centered on the TV show "Tosh.O" on Comedy Central. The show is still on Comedy Central and Shipman says Anheuser-Busch advertises on the channel.
The latest update on Carson King's fundraising for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital indicates King has now raised over $1.7 million. King will be part of the Hawkeye Wave to the hospital at the end of the first quarter of Saturday's Iowa-Middle Tennessee State game. Combining that with the fact that tomorrow is "Carson King Day" in Iowa, I have no doubt the total will eclipse $2 million by the time the weekend is over.
[Friday evening, September 27 update] $2 million has already been reached!
