Cedar Rapids Bike Share Program Returning in June

With sanitizing and safety plans and protocols in place, the City of Cedar Rapids announces the return of its popular bike-share program. The post on the City's website says it will return "within the next two weeks" (early June).

The city assures that workers with the program's vendor, VeoRide will perform multiple daily go-rounds to clean and disinfect (which has also been done in the program's off-season) the 150 electric-assist bikes and scooters across the estimated 90 bike racks designated for the program in Cedar Rapids to ensure the health and safety of users.

"We recognize the value in offering additional transportation options to residents, as well as a healthy outlet for physical fitness and activity", said the program's Assistant Director of Community Development, Bill Micheel.

If you've never used the bike-share program, here's how it works:

• Download the VeoRide mobile app for free.
• Create an account.
• Scan the QR code on any scooter or bike (or enter the ID number) to begin your ride.
• When finished, park in a designated bike rack.
• The fare will end once you lock the bike or click "end ride" on the scooter.
• Payment is completed through the app.

Unlocking the bikes to start with is $1, and 15 cents a minute for use after that.

News outlets often reported last year on users not returning the bikes to designated locations. The program's management asks you to be responsible and park in any of the designated green bike racks, or in green marked parking spaces for the bike program.

Bikes, scooters, and skateboards are not permitted on sidewalks. Please walk your wheels in these areas for the safety of pedestrians, (or of course, use the oh-so-controversially installed bike lanes). Sidewalk decals and street signage have been installed in areas where riding on the sidewalk is not permitted.
