A locally-owned fast food restaurant is growing in popularity and ready to expand. Or in this case, re-expand.

The owners of BurgerFiend restaurant at 3980 Center Point Rd. NE in Cedar Rapids shut down their other location in 2017,  long before the pandemic hit and caused struggles for so many restaurants and now they tell the Cedar Rapids Gazette the spot in Northeast Cedar Rapids has created such demand during the pandemic, that their 2020 16th Ave. SW location has returned. They've actually planned on reopening for quite some time.

They specialize in quality burgers and milkshakes, the burger chain also offers grilled cheese sandwiches and gyros. The 16th Ave. BurgerFiend restaurant was their original location.  An opportunity opened to expand at the old Spring House restaurant and marketing manager Sean Lekin said it was an opportunity they couldn't pass up.

The folks at BurgerFiend have taken time over the last few years to perfect the business model they wanted to present, by focusing their efforts on the Center Point Rd. location (which will remain open). Lekin says they are now ready for expansion. A post from their Instagram page notes they were chosen as a Top 10 Iowa's Burger contest finalist in 2018. It's definitely a place worth trying if you haven't.

Lekin boasts the local restaurant's simple menu and notes that the "new" location in Southwest Cedar Rapids will have drive-through and delivery service through DoorDash, along with dine-in and carryout service.

Their hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
