5K season is here. These are good little 3.1 mile runs that support good causes and are a lot of fun. (Don't be intimidated, walking is allowed, too.)

You can do something good for yourself and for the heroes of the community by signing up for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Memorial 5K. It takes place Saturday, May 25 at Prairie Hill Elementary School at 8 a.m. in Cedar Rapids.

Registration is just $20 through May 18, and you'll be provided a t-shirt. You can still register through May 21 for $15, which may not include a t-shirt.

After that, you'll need to apply at the Central Fire Station in Cedar Rapids starting at 6:30 p.m. on May 21, or in person at Prairie Hill on race day morning from 7-8 a.m. Shirt availability will not be guaranteed on these dates, and the lines will be long on race day, so it's suggested you register in advance.

Optional race number pick up is Friday night May 24th, at Central Fire Station from 6:30 PM - 8:30PM

The race day schedule of events follows:
• 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Registration and Race number pick-up
• 8:25 AM - Start of Wheelchair Race
• 8:30 AM - Start of 5K Run/Walk
• 9:45 AM - Firefighter Half Mile Fun Run
• Awards will be immediately follow the Fun Run

There will be awards in 9 age groups (all ages 8 and up are welcome).
