Seven Hy-Vee stores in the Cedar Rapids and Marion area are going to be putting on 'CommUNITY Appreciation Picnics' this week!

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a tough year, ESPECIALLY here in Eastern Iowa. Our community is still recovering from the devastating derecho that hit us on August 10th, which is made evident by all the missing roofs, fallen trees, and storm debris that continues to line the streets. But, despite all the hardships, Iowans came together in a remarkable way. Neighbors helped out neighbors, local businesses served up free meals, donations came pouring into various organizations, and people volunteered their time doing anything and everything that was needed. In such a divided time, it was a nice reminder that there are plenty of good people out there, and those good people are being celebrated at local Hy-Vees this week!

According to Facebook, seven local Hy-Vee stores are hosting a CommUNITY Appreciation Picnic on Thursday afternoon. The event page reads:

"To celebrate the strength of our community and the thousands of volunteers, workers, and city officials who banded together to overcome derecho - we invite you to a free picnic at Hy-Vee."

The participating locations include:

  • 3235 Oakland Rd NE, Cedar Rapids
  • 279 Collins Rd NE, Cedar Rapids
  • 4035 Mt Vernon Rd SE, Cedar Rapids
  • 1843 Johnson Ave NW, Cedar Rapids
  • 5050 Edgewood NE, Cedar Rapids
  • 20 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids
  • 3600 Highway 151, Marion

The picnics will be happening at all participating stores on Thursday, October 8th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. We don't know exactly what the events will entail, but you can RSVP on Facebook HERE.
