Sunday nights are becoming an ideal evening for joyriding in a stolen car in Linn County it seems.  At least, if you want to get busted for it.

The Iowa State Patrol, along with the Linn County Sheriff's Office and North Liberty police all engaged in a multi-county pursuit Sunday night of a motorist who allegedly blew a stop sign.

KWWL says it began around 10:17 p.m. on Sunday after Linn County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the motorist at Dows St and Main St in Ely. The driver continued to fail to pull over even after the deputy flashed his emergency lights.

The pursuit then continued southbound on Ely Road into Johnson county. The car briefly stopped, then backed into the deputy's car before continuing on between northern Johnson County and Linn County.

The pursuit went northbound on Club Rd before going west on Walford Rd. The vehicle drove into a farm field at Walford Rd and 18th St SW where it got stuck. The driver and two passengers fled on foot before being captured shortly after.

Three people were arrested in the incident, including the driver William Ramey, 22, of Cedar Rapids who was taken to Linn County Jail. His charges include the following:

  •  Attempting to Elude
  • Assault on a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon
  • Theft in the 2nd Degree
  • Multiple traffic violations

21-year-old Victor Knight and 22-year-old Hailey Johnson were both transported to the Linn County jail on charges of Interference with Official Acts.
