It started with the announcement in August 2018 that Collins Community Credit Union would take over the land previously occupied by Nash Finch and spend $25 million on a new building to become its headquarters on Blairs Ferry Rd. in NE Cedar Rapids.

The 5.25 acre property which will house the credit union's headquarters and office space for various tenants is now nearly complete. In the last week of June, the 12,600-square-foot first-floor will open for customers, plus its second and third floors for office spaces.

As of now, 75 percent of the project is done as construction workers spent this week installing elevators, finishing restrooms, and completing interior walls and carpeting on various floors.

9,500 square-feet of the building will be leasable space that Collins Community Credit Union vice president John Lewis told the Gazette he could envision being split between retail, food service, and other professional use.

They expect to start out hiring 150 employees once CCCU headquarters is open, and grow that to 330 full-time employees within 10 years. The finished product will also include a  gym and rooftop studio among other amenities.
