Social distancing in the age of coronavirus is a tough thing for many people to get used to. Now imagine you're 10. It's bad enough your mom and dad are making you wash your hands every couple of minutes, but now they say that you can't go anywhere! But wait a minute! What if your birthday is this month? My youngest, Cayleigh, turns 10 years old today. It's not quite the birthday she had in mind.

A normal birthday weekend would include a big friends party. She wanted to go try out her brand new rollerskates with friends at Super Skate. Social distancing and closures canceled that outing. She did have some friends spend the night on Friday but had to scale it back to three. A normal Sunday would have featured the big family and friends party with grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other family friends. We usually gathered at a local restaurant and had quite the party. But, to keep loved ones safe, there would be no such gathering this year.

So today, we'll try and make things extra special for Cayleigh. She picks dinner tonight! We'll watch the movies she wants to watch! And we'll let her know how much she is loved. She is such a smart and fun 10 year old. She loves art. Painting and drawing are her passions. She truly brightens our lives. Someday she'll look back at her 10th birthday and the year 2020 and be amazed at the times she lived through.

Happy Birthday, Cayleigh.
