A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through my Instagram feed when I came across a restaurant that I had never heard of before. I was shocked when I looked at the profile and it said that they were located in Cedar Rapids. A new Cedar Rapids restaurant that I haven't heard of?! How is that possible?! I knew immediately that I would have to go try it out as soon as possible.

Local Pour & Street Food opened up early this spring at 302 3rd Avenue SW (the old City Beat location), just outside the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids in the Kingston Village neighborhood. The restaurant is known for their unique menu, which is fairly limited, but with some great options.

They have a good reason for their small menu, though. The Gazette reports, "[the owners] said they wanted to focus on good food that wasn’t found on a lot of other pub menus around Cedar Rapids." When we spoke with one of the owners at our visit on Friday, he confirmed that statement, telling us that you can get nachos, burgers, and pizza anywhere, so they wanted to set themselves apart.

We looked up the menu ahead of time, so by the time we got there on Friday, we were already craving the poutine. As a Michigan-native, I'm very familiar with poutine, because it's basically a delicacy in Canada. It is typically a dish of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy, but Local Pour doesn't serve fries, so it comes with tater tots instead. It was SO FREAKING GOOD.

For our meal, a friend and I split the foot-long Chicago dog, knowing that there was no way that either one of us would be able to finish it solo. We were correct.

Even though we were all stuffed, we still ordered dessert because it sounded too good to pass up. The "Stick Donut" was totally delicious.

If you're looking to try out Local Pour, they're open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Make sure you ask about their "secret menu," and if you come in on a Wednesday, try out their weekly burger special!
