The Iowa Department of Public Health released its daily update on COVID-19 Tuesday morning and, unfortunately, the number of positive cases went up for the third straight day.

The update, which reflects the 24-hour period that ended at midnight last night, shows a total of 539 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Iowa. That brings the state's total cases to 12,912.

At her daily press conference, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds revealed that 319 of the positive cases announced today came from Iowans tied to a Nebraska processing plant. Those tests were actually done in April, but the results were delayed.

Governor Reynolds also didn't make any announcements about further business openings in the state, instead saying she wanted to look at more data and would be making announcements on Wednesday.

Linn County now has a total of 849 cases, indicating eight new cases in the county Monday, when compared with the information on Iowa Starting Line. Polk County has the most confirmed cases in the state at 2,447. Woodbury County has 1,998 and Black Hawk County 1,521.

Eighteen more Iowans died from COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total in the state to 289. Polk County has had the most deaths with 61, followed by Linn County with 59. Black Hawk (25), Muscatine (23), and Tama (13) are the other counties where at least 10 people have passed away from the virus.

The Iowa Department of Public Health also reveals there are currently 385 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa, with 5,618 recovered.
