CR has Been Named One of the Best Cities to Raise a Family

If you're raising your kids here in Cedar Rapids, you're in the right place! According to a new study, it's one of the best places in the entire U.S. for raising a family.

The website WalletHub recently put together a list of the best cities for raising a family using 46 different "key metrics." Median family salaries, violent-crime rates, divorce rates, affordable housing, and playgrounds per capita are just a few of the things they looked at during the study. According to the list, the top five cities in all of America are:

1. Overland Park, Kansas
2. Irvine, California
3. Fremont, California
4. South Burlington, Vermont
5. Bismark, North Dakota

Cedar Rapids came in 18th overall, ranking 49th for 'health and safety,' 34th for 'socio-economics,' and 4th for 'affordability.' We didn't do well in the 'family fun' category, coming in at number 143, and in 'education & childcare' we were ranked 70th. We did AMAZING in the sub-category of 'housing affordability,' though! Cedar Rapids was named number one out of all 180 cities!

Cedar Rapids isn't the only city in Iowa to make the list of best cities for raising a family. Des Moines came in at number 67! The Midwest really is a great place to live!
