Halloween is certainly going to look a little different this year thanks to COVID-19! Because of the pandemic, lots of local organizations are coming up with new ways to celebrate the holiday, and that includes the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department.

According to the Facebook event page, the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is going to be hosting a Halloween Drive-Thru this Sunday, October 18th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For only $5 per car, families can get dressed up in their costumes and drive over the parking lot of Kingston Stadium at 707 15th Street SW to collect some Halloween goodies. The event description reads:

"Line up to trick-or-treat in your car at your assigned time for check-in (registration receipt required) at the Kingston parking lot entrance, off 15th Street, then parade (slowly and carefully) through the Kernels’ parking lot where the event staff, sponsors, and volunteers will hand out treats."

It's important to note that advanced registration is REQUIRED for this event. When you register, you'll be asked to choose a one-hour window between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to do your mobile trick-or-treating. When you arrive at the event at your scheduled time, you will have to show your registration receipt before being allowed to continue. To register online now, click HERE.

To keep everybody safe, the Parks & Recreation Department is asking that you and your family please remain in your car at the event. They also recommend wearing a mask when collecting the treats. You can read more about the event and the COVID-19 protocols HERE.
