An 81-year-old man is dead following a head-on collision in the Eastern Iowa town of Fairfax. The Linn County Sheriff's Office along with Linn County Rescue 57 responded to the report of a two-car accident with serious injuries at Williams Blvd. and Prairie Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a northbound and a southbound vehicle on Williams Blvd. had collided nearly head-on at Praire Avenue. The driver of the northbound vehicle was the 81-year-old male. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 78-year-old passenger in his vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old female was driving the southbound vehicle. She was trying to make a left hand turn onto Prairie Avenue when she drove into the path of the other vehicle. She was also transported to a local hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. All occupants in the vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.

Identities of all those involved have not been released.
