For the second-straight week, five teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the Iowa high school boys basketball poll.

Aplington-Parkersburg is the highest rated squad from the region. The Falcons (4-0) have claimed the No. 1 spot in Class 2A following an impressive start to their season.

With a line-up that features three returning starters from last season's state semifinal team, Aplington-Parkersburg has won its four games by an average of 41.5 points. The Falcons are averaging nearly 86 points per game, while allowing 44.

Coach Aaron Thomas' squad moved up one position to replace Western Christian of Hull (3-1), which fell two spots to No. 3 after suffering its first loss of the season.

Aplington-Parkersburg's top competitor in the new North Iowa Cedar League Central Division is expected to be Denver. The Cyclones (5-1) are ranked at No. 4 in Class 2A.

Other rated teams from the region are: Janesville (No. 7 in Class 1A), Cedar Falls (No. 4 in Class 4A) and Waterloo West (No. 7 in Class 4A). All three teams are undefeated.

Among the squads that received votes to be ranked in the latest survey, there are 13 from the region.
