We're continuing to cover the community's progress in recovering from last month's storm and providing you with information on the best places to obtain the help and resources you need.

Still up and running for those in need at 4001 1st. Ave SE, the Iowa Derecho Resource Center will also offer a free hot meal to those in need, available from 4-6 p.m. today, September 15.

They have a continuing need for donations of various items, and you can even order and send them directly through a new Amazon Wish List they've created here. They take volunteers all day starting at 7 a.m. Sign up on their Sign-Up Genius page.

The most urgent current donation needs include:

  • Rakes, shovels, and yard waste bags
  • Canned fruit and individual fruit cups
  • Bread, peanut butter, and jelly
  • Size 6 diapers
  • Fresh produce
  • Perishable food items, especially milk, eggs, cheese and meat
  • Shampoo, conditioner and deodorant

Feel free to take donations to their location between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. If you need items delivered to you or even help with cleanup, they can offer that, too if you'd like to text them at (319)432-9754. They also still have their Facebook page available for questions, concerns, needs, and information.

Over a month since the derecho, this resource page and its central location have been tirelessly serving the needs of Eastern Iowans in their recovery.
