A popular Hostess snack cake has been recalled over possible mold contamination, so check your kids' lunch boxes ASAP!

Now that school is back in session, my pantry is filled with lunch box snack favorites like Goldfish, granola bars, Pringles, and snack cakes.

Here's the truth, snack cakes never last long in my house because we are a family full of sweet tooths. Twinkies, Cosmic Brownies, Chocolate Cupcakes, Swiss Rolls, we love all flavors and brands. Just last night I packed Ding Dongs in my kids' lunch boxes, and now I have learned that could be a big problem.

Hostess Ding Dong Recall

J.M. Smucker Co., the parent company of Hostess, has issued a nationwide recall of Ding Dong snack cakes "due to the potential for the presence of mold." Yikes!

The recall notice on the Hostess website says:

Our investigation into this matter confirmed a mechanical issue with a piece of equipment created conditions that could support the development of mold in the product prior to the expiration date. This mechanical issue was present for a limited period and resolved in a timely manner.

Certain types of mold can be hard to spot on chocolate, so if you've purchased Ding Dongs at stores like Walmart, Kroger, Meijer, or Jewel-Osco in Illinois or Wisconsin lately, check your boxes for this information immediately:
