ORIGINAL STORY 5/23:

Folks in the downtown area will have a new option when it comes to smoothies and other healthy items this summer! A new NutriSport & Smoothie is set to open at 223 2nd St SE in the coming months.

There are currently two NutriSport & Smoothie locations here in Cedar Rapids, but this will be the first in Downtown Cedar Rapids. It's moving into the building that was once home to Ruby's Pizzeria, which closed back in 2018. The shop is owned by Brent Stepanek and Craig Coder, two US Army veterans who have been best friends since childhood. They plan to offer discounts to local veterans, active military, firefighters, and police officers. Their ultimate goal is to bring more business back to the downtown area, as well as give folks some healthier options.

Like the other locations, the new NutriSport & Smoothie will have a variety of smoothies, supplements, and food options, like wraps. But, unlike the others, it will offer a sit-down option, as well as some outdoor seating. The owners are currently working on putting in new floors and giving the place a fresh coat of paint, so it will still be awhile before they begin welcoming customers. Brent says they are aiming for an early July grand opening. Here's a sneak peek look at the space:
