Is it just me or has there been an alarming number of fires in Cedar Rapids this early in the spring? There have been multiple house fires including one where cats were saved and a good samaritan risked his own life to save a dog.

Even amongst a cold and wet start to spring in Iowa, another fire has occurred in Cedar Rapids.

The fire occurred at around 3 a.m in the strip mall, at 705 3rd Avenue SE, this morning according to KCRG. The hardest hit by this fire was The Sisters Boutique.

Here is another shining example of why I think we should thank Firefighters every single day. Without the quick work of these men and women, things could've been a lot worse.

The crews on site needed to use aggressive firefighting techniques to ensure this fire did not get out of hand.

They cut a hole in the roof to help contain and prevent the fire from spreading to other suites according to KCRG.

Cutting a hole in the roof was to help exhaust heat and smoke from the attic.

Crews were able to gain control of the fire in 23 minutes. Sadly, Sisters Boutique was where the fire was confined and the interior did receive significant damage, with the rest of the building only dealing with minor smoke damage according to KCRG.

If you're never heard of Sisters Boutique they are "sisters that share a passion for clothing and appreciate the shop local concept. We offer woman's clothing and accessories."
