Eastern Iowa Community Finally Unveils New Fire Station

Santa came early for Solon Fire Department, as they proudly announced on Facebook this past weekend, that their brand new firehouse was completed and ready for their firefighters to move in.

According to CBS2, the new 20,000-square-foot facility is a significant upgrade from the previous building of 7,000 square feet. Solon Fire Chief Bob Siddell told CBS2:

it's been a fun project, taxing at times, not sure if we were gonna be able to get this thing completed the way we wanted it to be and, just relieved that we are actually in our new facility

According to their website, the Solon Fire Department is "an innovative department with 35 volunteer members. We are very fortunate to have some of the most talented individuals in the fire service volunteering here. We value the history and tradition of the Solon Tri-Township Fire Department. All members are trained to a minimum of Firefighter I and EMT or First Responder. The Tri-Township Fire department protects 112 square miles of Johnson County including the city of Solon."

We were fortunate to be granted access to photos of the new facility by Solon firefighter Greg Morris. Featured below is a large, spacious meeting room and sleeping quarters, the latter of which the Solon Fire Department didn't have in their previous space.

The department is also scheduled to receive a brand-new rescue truck in January, which will improve work efficiency and space. The fire station was able to be completed largely through community donations, which Morris said began as far back as 2018.

Congratulations to these volunteer heroes of a small town of 3,086, according to census figures on the Iowa Demographics website. Their territory of 112 square miles of Johnson County can be assured that 2023 will offer an even better level of safety and service.

Morris says an open house will be held early in the new year.
