One Waterloo man is dead, and another behind bars, after an accident involving a car and bicycle Tuesday afternoon.

22-year-old Dilail Salkic of Waterloo riding his bicycle at approximately 3:50 Tuesday afternoon when it collided with a car near West Third Street and Western Avenue in Waterloo. He was taken to an area hospital where he died yesterday, according to the Waterloo Police Department.

42-year-old L.A. Jefferson of Waterloo was arrested shortly after Tuesday afternoon's accident after witnesses said they saw a yellow car hit the bicycle. Jefferson's yellow Mitsubishi Lancer OZ-Rally was found about a block away, with the passenger portion of the windshield broken in.

Jefferson was initially charged with Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident. He's being held at the Black Hawk County Jail in Waterloo on a $100,000 bond. The Black Hawk County Attorney's Office is currently examining evidence while considering other charges.
