The world is paying tribute this week to the late Glenn Frey, following his stunning passing at age 67.

My first introduction to him was in the early 80's with his solo work, starting with "Smuggler's Blues". The song also wound up on one of my favorite shows as a kid, Miami Vice--and Frey even made appearances on the show in an acting role. "The Heat is On" and "You Belong to the City" followed.

I really didn't even know much about The Eagles and their history until middle school and really got into them with the "Hell Freezes Over" reunion album in 1994. I then made a point to begin exploring their music further and, like almost everyone else, became and remain a huge fan. I love so many of their songs and some of the best ones featured Glenn's vocals, including "Take it Easy", "Heartache Tonight" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling".

I don't usually respond to celebrity deaths as emotionally as I found myself reacting to the news about Glenn Frey earlier this week. Something about his music touched us all, and it still seemed like he had a lot left to offer. His contributions to music are sure to live on. They will certainly always remain a part of my life. Rest in peace, Glenn.
