Field Of Dreams HR Derby To Feature Former MLB Stars
Homeruns in baseball are still a sight to see. But a home run hit into the corn at the Field Of Dreams is something that can only happen one place on Earth. If you've ever dreamed about seeing balls entering an Iowa cornfield you'll want to head to Dyersville for a special home run derby this month.
Beyond The Game Iowa reports that a home run exhibition will take place at the Field of Dreams movie site on Saturday, August 12th. The event is free and open to the public and gets underway that afternoon at 3 p.m. Fans are urged to bring blankets and chairs for seating. Food and beverages will also be available on-site. Members of the USA Patriots and the Field of Dreams Ghost players will be taking part, as will some pretty impressive former MLB talent!
The celebrity hitters include Rickey Henderson, Vince Coleman, Dexter Fowler, and Jose Canseco. I'm no baseball expert but if I had to pick a favorite I think I'll go with the guy who has 462 career home runs, Jose Canseco! I was a huge fan of the Oakland A's during the late 1980s as Canseco teamed up with Mark McGuire to form the duo known as the 'Bash Brothers.' Those Oakland teams also included the greatest lead-off hitter in baseball history, Rickey Henderson!
Meanwhile, Midwest baseball fans will no doubt be thrilled to cheer on Vince Coleman, who spent the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was known more for his speed on the bases, however, than his home run power. Also appearing is Dexter Fowler who spent time with both the Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. One thing is for certain. The corn will be pelted with plenty of baseballs on August 13th!
