Daryl Hall & John Oates recently sold out one of the country's largest venues, Madison Square Garden in New York City. That's a rather surprising achievement for a veteran act, as amazing as they are. It also got me thinking about artists who could sell-out Cedar Rapids' concert venues.  Here's a list of five artists I think would be surefire sell-outs in Cedar Rapids. With capacities of around 8,000 for the Cell Center, 5,000 at the McGrath Amphitheatre and 2,000 at the Paramount Theatre, I'm leaving out some of the more obvious, big-ticket acts. (Disclaimer: I have no influence or inside information as to whom actually gets booked. This is just my personal opinion).

Yes, they are an east coast act which helped with the MSG sell-out. But it's no small feat for any performer.  If they can still fill that arena, they should easily be able to fill the Paramount Theatre or McGrath Amphitheatre. Chicago brought in a near-capacity crowd at the amphitheatre last summer and with the Beach Boys and Temptations coming this summer, it's time to bring on another classic artist who remain relevant.

    Journey

Cedar Rapids needs more classic rock shows, in the opinion of myself and many others I've talked to. Who better to fill this void than Journey? While they still haven't reunited with Steve Perry, they still draw sizeable crowds and could certainly do so here.

    .38 Special

Country and classic rock. Iowa is prime real estate for these genres, and .38 Special is a unique combination of both.  It's true, they seem to perform within driving distance of Cedar Rapids multiple times a year, including the Great Jones County Fair this summer, but it's our turn to stop settling for being the bridesmaid and have our chance to be the bride. Book them and pack the amphitheatre or U.S. Cellular Center.

Strike before the iron gets too hot, which may already be the case, unfortunately, and bring one of country's up-and-comers to town to sell out the U.S. Cellular Center, before he requires a bigger venue.

Make no mistake, I live in a 1980s world, but this is another artist who stopped in Iowa, Davenport to be exact, but not Cedar Rapids, in recent years. Alone, or with a co-headliner such as  Huey Lewis & The News, this show would make for an awesome jam outdoors at the amphitheatre--complete with the perfect summer anthem: "Summer of '69".
