Fong's Pizza in Des Moines is making national headlines for their new breakfast pizza option!

Back on February 23rd, the Fong's Pizza location on Forest Avenue in Des Moines made a controversial announcement on their Facebook page. They debuted their new "Loopy Fruit Pizza," topped with Froot Loops breakfast cereal! Here's a photo of the new breakfast creation:

Since making that announcement last week, Fong's has started getting attention across the state of Iowa and beyond. According to a new article from Today, the pizza "consists of a sweet cream cheese sauce base topped with mozzarella and, of course, a layer of Froot Loops along with a drizzle of Greek yogurt and condensed milk," and people seem to be pretty split on whether or not they want to try it.

The Loopy Fruit Pizza was actually briefly featured on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' last night! Towards the end of his opening monologue, Jimmy's face very clearly let us know what side of the debate he's on. His final thought? "I'm just worried that this will ruin the great reputation of Iowa pizza." Even DiGiorno weighed in on Twitter, writing, "please do not disrespect the word pizza like this."

Despite the backlash, the article from Today says that plenty of people are interested in giving the Loopy Fruit Pizza a try. Gwen Page, the co-founder of Fong's, said in the interview, “I’m pretty impressed with the good portion of folks who are like ‘Oh, let’s go check it out.’ Life is for living. Go have that unique experience!"

The Loopy Fruit Pizza is a permanent menu item at the Fong's location at 3018 Forest Avenue in Des Moines, so the next time you're out that way, you can give it a try! It's available Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all day on Sunday.
