A Jones County woman, and former employee of the Cedar Rapids Community School District, has pled guilty to enticing a minor to engage in an illegal sex act.

The U.S. Attorney's Office from the Northern District of Iowa says a criminal complaint was filed in the case of 46-year-old Miranda Breeden of Monticello, Iowa in August of 2020. The complaint says authorities found numerous Facebook messages in which Breeden communicated with a 14-year-old male, arranging meetings for sex. Breeden, who was a mental health therapist for the boy at the time, worked in that capacity for a Cedar Rapids school from the fall of 2019, through early 2020. According to KCRG, a parent of the boy reached out to Cedar Rapids Police about a possible relationship between Breeden and their son on January 22, 2020.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says investigators were also able to determine that Breeden bought a gun for the boy at a Cedar Rapids Theisen's store in December of 2019.

Breeden admitted at a federal court plea hearing in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, July 13 that over a three-month period in late 2019 and early 2020 she used a cell phone to entice the 14-year-old into a sexual relationship. She entered a guilty plea for enticement of a minor.

A sentencing date for Breeden has not yet been set. She remains in jail at the Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids on a federal hold for the United States Marshal Service. According to the Northern District of Iowa U.S. Attorney's Office, Breeden faces a "mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life, a $250,000 fine, and at least 5 years of supervised release following any imprisonment."
