As if the rivalry between Iowa and Iowa State isn't often intense enough, a new chapter has been added that no doubt will pour more fuel on the fire. A former Iowa State football player has been charged with assaulting current Iowa basketball player Jordan Bohannon, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

29 year old Nicholas Kron of Nashville, Tennessee, faces an assault causing bodily injury charge for allegedly attacking Jordan Bohannon outside of a downtown Iowa City bar. The Gazette reports that Kron turned himself in on Saturday, was booked into the Johnson County Jail, and then was released around 20 minutes later. Bohannon had filed a lawsuit against Kron just a few days earlier, alleging that the former Cyclone had "brutally, unlawfully and intentionally" assaulted him.

The Gazette reports that police records show that both Kron and Bohannon were at DC's Bar in Iowa City on May 23rd. After the bar closed, police say that Kron and another person got into an argument outside. Police records say that is when Kron walked over to Bohannon, turned him around and punched him three times in the back of the head. Bohannon was knocked to the ground and suffered a cut to his head.

Police say that Bohannon's friends eventually led him away, but he ended up seeking medical treatment for his head injury. The Iowa Athletic Department declined comment, saying that the incident was not connected to the University.

Bohannon announced in April that he was returning to the Iowa basketball team for the 2021-22 season.
