Four Iowa Rumors You Won’t Believe
The internet is abundant with rumors and stories, but have you heard these Iowa-specific fables? How many are plausible?
1. The Notebook 2 filming in Des Moines
A series of hoax articles claimed a sequel to the Notebook would be filming across the United States in order to boost page views on discreditable sites. One of the most popular being McKenzie Post in March 2016:
The incredibly popular Nicholas Sparks film The Notebook from 2004 is returning with a spirited sequel tentatively entitled The Notebook 2 and will be filmed in and around Des Moines, Iowa. Nick Cassavetes is returning as director and Nicholas Sparks has a finished screenplay in hand as filming is set to begin this fall. Dakota Johnson and Liam Hemsworth are set to star in the sequel which is described by Nicholas Sparks as “a spirited sequel set in the Des Moines, Iowa area of the 1950’s” - McKenzie Post, March 2016
2. It is illegal for Iowans to kiss longer than 5 minutes
There are many interesting "facts" on www.dumblaws.com, but are they all fact checked? Many articles that state it is illegal in Iowa to kiss longer than 5 minutes lead back to the Dumb Laws site.

3. Phallic Iowa State Fair Logo
This one speaks for itself, this fake Iowa State Fair Logo was attempted to be passed off as legitimate by Twitter users stating surprise at the phallic nature of a giant barn silo with two bails of hay on either side. Dismissed as an obvious fake by the Iowa State Fair, you can still check it out HERE.

4. Lesbians Sent by Obama to Invade Farms
This one may be the strangest of the bunch, and yet there are major news sources that believe this to be true. Conservative talk show host and angry white guy Rush Limbaugh, accused President Obama and the Democrats of recruiting lesbian farmers to "attack" conservative rural areas of the U.S.
Many LGBT people choose to live, work, and raise their families in rural areas. To highlight the unique needs of this community, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has partnered with Drake Law School, One Iowa, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and True Colors Fund to organize the Iowa LGBT Rural Summit.
Consequently Rush spent a large portion of his program on August 17 rallying against an impending invasion of rural America by lesbian farmers.
