Winter may have arrived in Westeros, but Game of Thrones is finally melting the ice with a summer premiere. At long last, Season 7 has been confirmed for an official July premiere, as revealed during a special, lengthy ice-breaking live event.

HBO held a special live Facebook reveal for the official Season 7 premiere date, now set for July 16. Season 7 is the first Game of Thrones year not to premiere in spring, as well to come in under 10 episodes, while star Liam Cunningham previously suggested July as a start date. Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, a list of directors for the year has been announced along with rumors of some major set pieces and battles, while at least a portion of filming will take place in Iceland. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent gave us surprising details of his “significant” role, while several notable returns have likely been revealed, along with an unexpected MLB cameo, and one recast.
