Gander Outdoors in Cedar Rapids Appears Headed for Closure

It appears likely Gander Outdoors in Cedar Rapids is going to close its doors. Again.

Camping World Holdings Inc., which owns Gander Outdoors, is planning to close most of their 37 locations around the U.S. that do not sell RV's, RV parts and accessories, or do RV service. The Cedar Rapids Gander Outdoors location doesn't sell or service RV's, putting them on the list of stores that could close.

Though Camping World has not responded to requests for comment on the Cedar Rapids store, the Cedar Rapids Gander Outdoors location is offering 40 percent off the entire store, with some exclusions:

The Buffalo News confirmed late last week that a store in Tonawanda, New York was closing. A Gander Outdoors in Rockford, Illinois has also confirmed closure. Both stores have done the same sale the Cedar Rapids store is currently doing.

It was just three years ago this month, Gander Mountain announced plans to move to a new Cedar Rapids location on Blairs Ferry Road. Within six months, bankruptcy was announced and by the fall of 2017, it was announced the new location would never open. Then, just under 15 months ago, the former Gander Mountain location at 2140 Edgewood Road SW opened as a Gander Outdoors. Unfortunately, it appears likely the end of the road for the Gander brand in Cedar Rapids is almost upon us.
