They did it! Congratulations to the Appanoose County town of Centerville, who, over the weekend set out to break a tasty record. They now find themselves in the Guinness Book of World Records after celebrating the town's "Pancake Day" on Saturday and serving 14,280 pancakes.

They didn't quite meet their other goal, which was to double the previous world record of 13,000 pancakes served in a single sitting, but it does pretty comfortably overtake that number. Their annual "Pancake Day" festivities took place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as they set out to beat Blue Springs, Missouri as the world record holder in serving pancakes.

The 14,000 didn't even beat their normal serving numbers on Pancake Day, which is usually about 17,000. But that's only because the world record attempt required strict specifications for preparation of the flapjacks, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

The most shocking number to me might be 100. A mere 100 people volunteered to consume free pancakes to help accomplish this record! Since the previous record was just set this past June, it shouldn't be long before another town or group mobilizes and organizes their quest to break it again, but for now, Centerville can boast the bragging rights for this achievement!

Every town seems to have its own festival of some sort to distinguish itself, and Pancake Day is just that for Centerville. It started in 1948 as a way for the once-bustling manufacturing sector in town to show appreciation for employees in the town but has since become a big deal for everyone to celebrate.
