An unthinkable turn of events in Davenport Monday evening left a man dead and a community wondering how someone could be involved in what happened and leave the scene.

According to the Davenport Police Department, they were called to a hit and run, involving a pedestrian, just before 7:10 p.m. Monday night.

When authorities and emergency personnel arrived, they found an unresponsive male in the roadway in the 2600 block of N. Fillmore Lane. The Davenport Police Department's investigation determined that the man had been hit by a vehicle in approximately the 1900 block of N. Washington St. He had been dragged to the N. Fillmore Lane location where he was found by someone going by. WQAD says the man's body was discovered very close to Genesis West. Our Quad Cities reports he was transported to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Our Quad Cities, nearly a dozen police cars were at the scene Monday night, with several surrounding roads closed due to the crash and investigation.

The Davenport Police Department says the vehicle that struck the man left the scene. They do not know what type of vehicle it is and the Traffic Safety Unit of the Davenport Police Department continues to investigate. The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.
