The phrase from the movie goes, "If you build it, he will come." Well, a whole bunch of folks are headed for the Field of Dreams in Dyersville this August for the first Major League Baseball game to be played in the state of Iowa. The field is nearly complete, and on August 12th, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will play in the middle of an Iowa corn field. But with just 8,000 seats in the temporary stadium, how many Iowans will actually get to attend the game?

Major League Baseball announced their plans on how they plan on selling tickets for the big game on Thursday. With that few seats available, a lottery system will be used to randomly select the people who will be given the opportunity to then purchase tickets for the game. Registration for that lottery will begin today and go through July 23rd, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The good news? This lottery is just for Iowa residents.

MLB says that the lottery is open to any Iowa 18 years of age and older, with an Iowa zip code. If your name is randomly drawn, you will then have the chance to purchase a ticket strip. That strip will contain two game tickets and a parking pass, according to the Gazette. MLB did not say how many strips will be made available, or how much they will end up costing.

Here are the important dates regarding the lottery system.

  • Registration begins - July 16th 9 a.m. CST
  • Registration ends - July 23rd 11 a.m. CST
  • Random Drawing - on or about August 1st
  • Winners notified via email - on or about August 2nd
  • Ticket purchase chance for winners - on or about August 3rd

It's going to be expensive, but if you want the chance to watch the Yankees and White Sox play in Iowa, register for the lottery at THIS WEBSITE. Good Luck!
