How To Recycle Your Christmas Tree In Cedar Rapids
There is just something about the smell of a real Christmas tree. But now that the holiday season is coming to an end, what do you do with that big green thing in your living room? Fortunately, you can recycle your real tree.
The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste Department collects real Christmas trees as part of their yard waste collection service. Unflocked trees will be picked up starting December 26th through the middle of January. Before you set your tree out curbside, make sure all the ornaments are off. Remove the stand or any other metal objects from the tree. The tree should be cut in half or even thirds, no longer than 6 feet each. Trees should be no more than 2 feet in diameter. Please do NOT put the tree in a plastic bag.
The tree can be placed at the curb on your collection day. You can also put it in your YARDY, but please make sure that the lid can still close. Flocked Christmas trees are considered a trash item and may not be recycled.
The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department also has set up two sites for dropping off your real Christmas tree. You can take your tree to Sac and Fox Trail parking lot, and the Praire Park Fishery. Both sites are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
You know, you could always save yourself the hassle next year and stock up on this 6-ft. artificial Spruce. Just saying, it might make your life (or at least your clean up) easier.
