Too many families have had to go through the pain of losing a loved one to suicide. There are never any easy answers, and the pain never truly fades away. Family and friends of Hunter Ackerman know that pain. Hunter passed away in May of 2021 leaving behind many friends and family members who miss him every day. Those friends and family will gather for the second year in a row next weekend for the 2nd Annual Hunter Ackerman Memorial Ride.

One of Hunter's passions was riding motorcycles, so it makes perfect sense that he is honored at a ride bearing his name. The 2nd Annual Hunter Ackerman Memorial Ride takes place on Saturday, August 27th. Registration begins that Saturday at 8 a.m. at Cedar River Landing at 301 F Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids. A breakfast buffet will also be served. The ride will begin at 10:30 a.m. with kickstands up! Planned stops on the route this year include Walker, Delhi for lunch, Waubek, and then back to Stadium Lounge on Rockford Road in Cedar Rapids.

There will be other activities happening as well including a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and door prizes. All the money raised during this year's ride will go to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Mission 22, and MorganSmilesToGo. Event t-shirts can also be ordered on the event's Facebook page.

Last year's ride had 250 motorcycles and even a few cars and trucks that took part. Let's make this year's bigger and better than ever. I'm sure Hunter will be riding right there with you.
