Hy-Vee ‘Fast and Fresh’ Coming To Marion

Out of all the buildings that didn't get rebuilt thanks to last August's derecho, none hurt more in the city of Marion than the Hy-Vee Drugstore. Hy-Vee Drugstore locations were great. They're smaller, more compact versions of a Hy-Vee grocery store. Sure they won't have everything a big Hy-Vee does, but if you're in a hurry and just need some toilet paper, trash bags, and a Marion trash tag, it was the place to go! Hy-Vee has finally announced what will be built on the land along 7th Ave. in Marion.

Opening in late 2021 will be a new Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh location, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Like the former Hy-Vee Drugstore locations, the Fast and Fresh stores, like the one picture above in Coralville, are also smaller, condensed versions of a Hy-Vee grocery store. This will be Hy-Vee's first Fast and Fresh store in the Cedar Rapids area, and will also include gas pumps.

Fast and Fresh locations will carry pantry and frozen items, along with fresh produce, dairy, meat, and bakery items, according to the Gazette. The store will also feature carry out made to go meals, and take and heat meal options as well.

The bottom line is that the vacant lot where Hy-Vee Drugstore used to be, will once again be home to a store that thousands of Eastern Iowans used, including myself. In this day and age of huge stores and countless options, sometimes the best option, is smaller and streamlined. I can't wait for the new Fast and Fresh!
