Next time you're in the checkout line at Hy-Vee and the cashier asks, "would you like to use your Fuel Saver?", say yes. It could help your local school.

As the pandemic and derecho aftermath have continued and left so many Iowans in need, the grocery chain has been there to help every step of the way. Now it is launching an initiative as they pledge to donate $75,000 to Iowa schools to help them recover from the pandemic. Here's how it works.

According to CBS2, now through January 31, Hy-Vee's "Fuel Your School" campaign allows customers to enter a sweepstakes to buy certain brands in the store and use their Fuel Saver discount (plus their Perks reward card) for the purchase. Customers will receive one automatic entry into the sweepstakes for every eligible product they purchase in-store or online.

In February, fifty winners will receive $200 in prizes and $1,000 for the school of their choice, while another five grand prize winners get $500 in prizes plus $5,000 for the school of their choice. 55 schools will divide $75,000 and 55 customers will receive up to $12,500 in prizes.

You can also shop for certain products online to participate in the "Fuel Your School" program. It's open to shoppers across Hy-Vee's entire eight-state footprint.

No purchase is necessary as customers can participate via a mail-in entry and can learn how to do that here.
